Kegging equipment in Edmonton

Post by hawkbox » 2 years ago

Hi all, just started brewing a few months ago and I'm getting properly obsessive about it. I've had a good deal of success bottling but I have a commercial kegerator and I'm interested in doing a conversion and getting a couple homebrew kegs to move away from bottling everything. I've tried a few sites in Edmonton (Harvest Brewing, Estate Brewing) and come up empty. I was wondering if you guys had any knowledge into this area I can make use of. All the information I've been able to find is years old and seemingly no longer accurate.

Thanks

Welcome to the hobby!

What are you looking for exactly, some corny/soda kegs? There's tons of suppliers who will ship them, some reconditioned and some new manufacture.

OBK immediately comes to mind, but there are certainly others.

Also don't forget about Kijiji for used soda kegs. Often less expensive and no difference in quality.

To do the conversion it's just a matter of plumbing.

Sanke kegs have a single coupler that feeds gas in and beer out, vs corny kegs where it's two separate ball lock adapters: one for gas, one for beer.

I'm looking at the soda kegs as they look a lot easier to clean/maintain. I'm frankly a bit hesitant to buy from Kijiji more due to the shifty nature of the ads than anything. What is OBK?

Ontario Beer Kegs. It's a supplier.

I've bought tons of stuff on Kijiji without issue but certainly it's not for everyone. Very little can go wrong with a soda keg. If it holds pressure it holds pressure, otherwise it'll be obvious that it doesn't.

And even if it doesn't, it's probably just the o-ring that need to be cleaned or replaced (cheap, easy)

And yes, soda kegs are much easier to clean than Sanke kegs.

Some home brewers even ferment in soda kegs FYI.

That makes sense with OBK. Very cool. It sounds like I'm overthinking this.

Thank you.

It's a whirlwind when you first start. When I first discovered kegging, I was blown away that Homebrewers could even use kegs.

Winning wines plus in lendrum place has some kegging supplies. But watch the kegs if you buy em, i bought a dud from them, should have been obvious but i didnt look close enough. They also are the best place to buy supplies locally

Im sure if i took tge keg back they would be good about it, but im 2 hours out of the city. They are good to deal with. You should check out the edmonton homebrewers guild.
