What is extract brewing?

What is Extract Brewing?
Extract brewing is making your own beer out of malt extract, whether liquid or dry. This is called LME (liquid malt extract) and DME (Dry Malt Extract). Liquid malt extract is the thick syrup found in beginner beer kits, as well as sold by homebrew supply companies. Liquid Malt Extract has the consistency of molasses--very thick, sticky, and slow-running. Dry malt extract is a powder with the consistency of dextrose sugar (fermentation sugar).

Here is a picture of Liquid Malt Extract sold seperately, and a picture of a beermaking kit that contains liquid malt extract.

Extracts are the appetizer for my main guests of honour in my 12 gallon all grain batches. Just about to reach full Krausen! If I did'nt stir, it would make a yeasty gross mess all about my brew room!
