Newbie has brown powder beside krausen

Post by Blackhawks » 2 years ago

I just started a Coopers English Bitter 2 days ago and found this on top adjacent to the white bubbly foam today. It looks like a brown powder substance. Is this normal?

Looks like a yeast raft to me. Let it go, see if it drops after primary fermentation completes.
In the fermentor: Golden Sour, Not a Pil
Tap 1: Puck that Filsner
Tap 2:
Tap 3: Paddockwood Kolsch

Agreed, nothing to fear... Put the lid back on, and forget about it for a couple weeks.

Thanks everyone! I was worried I may have gotten an infection as the body of my thermometer (the plastic box part) was not sanitized and it touched the foam on top just before pitching the yeast. It smells awesome but I could not find any pictures that supported this as normal Krause. I'll google a yeast raft.
