Rate this Black IPA recipe (grain/hop profile)

Post by twistandstout »

Here's the recipe: the grain profile and hops I plan on throwing in. 5 gallon batch.

Grains:

6 pounds extra light DME

To steep:

1 lb Crystal 40
8 oz Midnight Wheat
4 oz Chocolate Malt

Hops:

No 60 minute addition.

2oz columbus - 20min
1oz centennial - 15min
1oz nugget - 15min
Boiling 3.5 gallons = IBU of 70-71

1oz citra flameout
1oz cascade flameout

1oz amarillo dry hop
1oz simcoe dry hop

Thoughts? Crazy? Tasty? Too many hops? I was considering taking out nugget altogether and just adding 2oz centennial at 15 minutes. More hops due to the lower boil volume. Wanting to try this hop bursting technique, with no full 60 minute addition.

Here are the hops I had on hand for this beer. Decided to go a little crazy. Will the hop flavor be much too intense? Should I keep citra for dry hopping? I need suggestions from those more experienced!

3oz columbus
2oz centennial
1oz citra
1oz nugget
1oz cascade
1oz amarillo
1oz simcoe

I went ahead and brewed this. Will be using a total of 7 different hops amounting to 1/2 pounds by the end of the dry hop.

Hope it's good. Smelled great today.
