Ooops!!

Post by Sixstring78 »

Don't ask me why, but when I got home today I just had to have a peek at the beer I brewed yesterday. There was some little voice inside my head saying "open it up", so I did.
I opened up the bucket and what did I see... the little plastic ring that locks the cap onto the spring water bottle, floating on the top of my beer!! Noooo!!
Must not have noticed it dropped into the bucket when I was dumping my water in. I sanitized a spoon and removed the ofending piece of blue plastic.
I sure hope this doesn't infect my beer. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

Honestly, with a days soak, removing it probably was unnecessary. At that point if it was going to infect your batch it would have already; removing it simply added another chance at contamination. As long as you were clean-ish during prep, you're probably OK. It never ceases to amaze me just how robust beer can be. I once found two hot wheels cars at the bottom of my primary; the beer was fine despite the hotwheels being put in there by a slimy 3-yo.

Everything turned out fine. I'm actually 3/4 of the way through the keg. Lol
I named it "Blue Ring Ale". :)
