Dear new homebrewer...

Make sure you start by hydrating your yeast but you can pitch it out of the package as-is. Throw in any grain you like but use only specific ones to stay on-style. The only beer worth drinking is all grain, but you can use malt extract because it will taste just as good.

Throw in more hops or is that fewer hops because beer that is too hoppy, or is that not hoppy enough, is better, or isn't? If you brew biab squeeze the bag so you don't waste any precious wort, but don't squeeze it or you'll extract too much tannin. If you don't shake the crap out of the wort before adding the rehydrated/ dry yeast you'll definitely fail but that's ok because dry yeast has oxygen already in it. So you'll be fine. For God's sake never use a secondary or the sun won't come up in the morning. Unless you like to secondary.

In which case, when you get up tomorrow you can do it all again and make some other brew that catches your fancy. Because homebrewing is awesome and you can do whatever the heck you want.

And I wasn't even sipping a brew last night! It just kind of started then kept falling out of my typing fingers.

If you like the beer you make, it doesn't matter how you made it.

Well done. I've been increasing my home brew knowledge from a standing start less than a month ago. Your observations have already struck a cord and I haven't even boiled water as yet. I especially laughed over the tannin observation! It seems all too true.
