Dead Yeast?

I bought a pac of Escarpment Labs Biergarten lager yeast on Dec. 9. It was delivered on Dec. 15. I realize it is a busy time of the season, but I wondered where it sat all that time. It was quite dark when I pitched in my starter wort. It has been 36 hours and no foam, no bubbles on the stir plate. What now?

Check the gravity - it may have fermented out already.

Can you check gravity?
In the fermentor: Golden Sour, Not a Pill v2
Tap 1: Puck that Filsner; Berliner Weisse
Tap 2: Not a Pill; Lager
Tap 3: Paddockwood Kolsch

I have had it in the fridge for an hour or so and there is no visible yeast on the bottom of my flask.

How much dme and how much water did you use? Most starter recipes wind up 1036-1040. Might be some active yeast in there, but not many, can step up again or just buy new yeast....

I may step it up but too late to buy new yeast now. I never check the OG of my starters.

It's alive!! Stepped up to a 4 L starter and a few hours later I saw lots of foam and bubbles. Finally.
