OBK Grain Prices

Post by Reignman » 1 year ago

They have lowered their grain prices quite a lot. If you check them out on facebook, he explains why. I personally want to order a sack of Weyermann Pils malt but ordering one lb. at a time is kind of well, cheap? Low? I will save a ton if I do that, but... Anyone else going to take advantage of this? Shipping will be higher of course if you live out of province.

1 lb at a time? I plugged that into the shipping and got $9.

Then I put in 30lbs of various grains (plus some hops and yeast) and got $16 shipping.

So I just ordered 30 lbs of grain. I'm very happy with the savings on their grain prices right now.

Did you wind up placing some orders?

Not yet. I still have grain bags at home, but when I need stuff I might toss in a bag of Pils malt.

Shipping costs is due to the min. price Canada Post charges. It could be 100 grams, but if it is too big to go in an envelope and go via Letterpost, then it goes parcel, and there is a min. charge regardless of the weight.

Distance being shipped has an effect on shipping cost as well

I don't think $16 for just over $30 lbs is unreasonable. And next day delivery....

There's a fine line of what I'll pay for delivery on smaller items, so sometimes will wait until I have more that I need.

Shipping is usually a killer for me for grain so I should look again at what they're charging.

I did place a full order and the shipping was around $17.00. I tossed in a few other things with it too. I can't get in on the grain buy as I am busy that day.

On the OBK facebook page, Patrick says he is keeping the grain prices as they are. I am using a different base malt in every order.

The prices are pretty reasonable but they're still high enough I can justify sticking with my local.

I can get local grains here for around .94 a lb. However, I can't get any English malts that make a bitter a bitter.
